Bistrot de Lyon,
Brasserie Restaurant in Lyon 2

Opened in 1974 by chef Jean-Paul Lacombe, the Bistrot de Lyon is a legendary restaurant which celebrates Lyon’s art of fine dining every day.

A veritable icon on rue Mercière, this restaurant has retained its original identity: a relaxed bistro with a friendly feel, a stunning décor, delicious food and an omnipresent cheerfulness.

A pioneer on rue Mercière

When he opened the restaurant, Jean-Paul Lacombe was a 25-year-old chef who had taken over the legendary family-run restaurant Léon de Lyon two years earlier. His talent earned the restaurant an impressive reputation and a Michelin star was awarded in 1973.

But he felt a growing need to let off some steam and embarked upon an adventure on rue Mercière, just round the corner from rue Pléney.

And so the first restaurant was opened on a street which would go on to become the most tourist-friendly area in all of Lyon.

The Bistrot de Lyon was also the first “chef’s bistro”, before it became fashionable, and the first to serve diners outside on the terrace. Over the decades, the Bistrot de Lyon has always been unique, a place like no other, with an almost magical combination of quality ingredients, inspired menus, a warm welcome and wonderful service which turns every meal into a feast for the senses.

A menu which combines authentic Lyonnaise cuisine
and traditional bistro dishes

Open seven days a week, the Bistrot de Lyon serves two culinary styles every day, including authentic Lyonnaise cuisine.

Diners will love the restaurant’s homemade pâté en croûte, Lyonnaise salad served with a savoury cake made with pig's ears and a selection of local saucisson, followed by a delicious crayfish dumpling or the legendary Saint Cochon (French black pudding), to mention just a few of the restaurant’s specialities.

Of course, when it comes to the cheese course, there’s the delightfully creamy duo of Saint Marcellin and cervelle de canut, a local cheese dip. Depending on how the mood takes you, you may also opt for classic bistro and brasserie dishes which vary with the seasons. And to round off your meal, the desserts are an ode to indulgence, beginning with the restaurant’s iconic and irresistible profiteroles, topped with hot chocolate sauce.
